Sinamandla Maqina is an electronic engineer at Africa Space Innovation Centre (ASIC), which is based at Cape Peninsula University of Technology Bellville Campus. He obtained all his qualifications at Cape Peninsula University of Technology; his qualifications are National Diploma, BTech and MEng in Electrical Engineering. He also holds a National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, which he obtained in 2010. Prior to completion of his MEng Degree, Sinamandla joined ASIC as a Trainee where he developed a concept for an X-band antenna that was later developed for the ZACube-2 mission. He was actively involved in the development and operations of ZACube-2 mission, his work included EMI simulations on the relevant aspect of a CubeSat, implementation and testing of GNURadio software defined radios to support integration and testing. In 2021, he supported the MDASat-1 mission by developing the electrical ground support equipment board which is used to interface with satellite components. His current work is to support the operations of MDASat-1 flight models, maintenance of the ground station infrastructure and further development of CPUT ground software that is incorporated to the third-party mission control software with the objective to define the dependability in distributed systems of the ground infrastructure. He is also working on the automated process of assembly and integration testing of CubeSat. His research interest is in reconfigurable software defined radios.
