Dario Modenini is an Assistant Professor of Space Systems with >10 years of experience in small satellites subsystems design and prototyping, including the ground segment and test support facilities. He has significant experience in attitude determination/control hardware and software, and navigation algorithms using GNSS and optical observables. Dr. Modenini is actively engaged in various national and international R&D cooperation programs with industry, government, and academic organizations. He is involved in several missions including Italian Space Agency (AS) led CUSP (CUbesat Solar Polarimeter) and BISS (Bi-directional IoT Satellite Service). Currently, Dario Modenini is the leader of the University of Bologna team within ASI project ABACO, for the development of an autonomous navigation subsystem in LEO with collision avoidance capabilities. He is responsible for the development and integration, under ESA funding, of a nanosatellite-class attitude control facility to be installed at the AOCS Verification Laboratory in ESA-ESTEC. He has also been the Ground Segment and Mission Control Center manager for the European Student Earth Orbiter (ESEO), a micro-satellite mission to Low Earth Orbit, developed, integrated, and tested by European university students as an ESA Education Office project. Since 2020 Dr. Modenini has member of the Board of the PhD program in Aerospace Science and Technology (DAST) at Università di Bologna. He is a member of the Governing Board of AIDAA - Italian Association of Aeronautics and Astronautics, the second-oldest scientific aerospace society in the world. He is the co-founder of the spin-off company, NautiluS Navigation in Space (2021).
