Prof Martin Snow

Prof Martin Snow is the Research Chair in Space Weather at the South African National Space Agency (SANSA).  He earned his PhD in astrophysics from the University of Colorado Boulder in the USA.  Solar physics and space weather are his current areas of research, in particular the long and short timescale changes in solar spectral irradiance.  As a research scientist at the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics in Colorado, he worked on the design, calibration, and analysis of space instruments to measure solar irradiance. He came to SANSA in 2021 to continue his research and to mentor postgraduate students in solar physics, creating a new generation of solar scientists in South Africa.
