Prof. Taye Demissie

Prof. Demissie is a computational and physical chemist. After his PhD study (2013), financed by EU regional development fund at the Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw, he spent 4 years as a postdoctoral researcher in Norway (UiT - The Arctic University of Norway, Tromso), funded by the Norwegian Research Council. He was also a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry (IOCB) of the Czech Academy of Sciences in Prague for one year, funded by the EU. He has been teaching at different universities since 2001. Currently he is an Associate Professor of Physical Chemistry at the University of Botswana (UB). Prof. Demissie is serving as the UB STEM Committee Chair. As a PI and co-PI, he is also overseeing two interdisciplinary projects that are internally sponsored by UB (Phytochemical Investigation of Kniphofia Species for Antimalarial Compounds, and Phytochemical investigation of selected medicinal plants used traditionally to treat diabetes in parts of Botswana). He has successfully supervised several BSc and MSc students and co-supervised 5 PhD students. Currently he is supervising 3 MSc and co-supervising 2 PhD students. Prof. Demissie has so far published more than 75 research articles in high-impact factor peer-reviewed international journals. His current h-index is 19. He is an academic editor for PLOS ONE. Prof. Demissie is involved in Work Package 7 and is Chair of the Dissemination and Outreach Committee of the FAST4Future project.
