Richie Moalosi is a Professor of Industrial Design at the Department of Industrial Design and Technology at the University of Botswana. He is also the founding Director of the University of Botswana Innovation Centre. He holds a PhD in Industrial Design (Queensland University of Technology, Australia), an MA in Design (University of Wolverhampton, UK), B.Ed in Design and Technology (University of Botswana). He has over 20 years of teaching experience at university level. He works with small micro-enterprises, start-ups, community-based organizations, and the creative industries to develop and add value to their products, brands, and service innovation capabilities, as these are the next engine of the creative economy in Africa and other emerging economies. His specialization and research interest areas include the following: design and culture, design research, design education, design for sustainability, social innovation, and additive manufacturing. He has also published extensively in international peer-reviewed journals, contributed book chapters, published books, and presented at many international peer-reviewed conferences. He coordinates the University of Botswana Design for Sustainability and Social Innovation Lab. He works with various grassroots communities to empower them to solve their challenges using the bottom-up approach.
